The Authority consists of five directors. Three Directors appointed by the Minister, with the approval of the President, and two ex- officio Directors, namely the Secretary to the Ministry charged with the subject of Finance and the Secretary to the Ministry charged with the administration of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka Act. The Minister with the approval of the President appoints one of the Directors to be the Director General of the Authority. The Director General is the chief executive officer of the Authority.
